This photo was provided courtesy the A.J. Jackson Collection. Please do not download or copy this photo; this version has been degraded both in quality and size, and the original, high resolution scan is available at a very reasonable price from this collection. I would encourage you to visit the site in any case, as the collection is quite amazing!
QL-17s
are 3 L-17As (47-1334, 47-1344 and 47-1351) converted for radio-controlled target duties. From
the photo and other research, we would expect these aircraft to be painted
bright orange, here with white wings, for visibility. In the original photo, you
can just make out QL-17 logo and "U.S. Army Special Corps" L-17.ORG
will continue to research these aircraft, but it is very nice to have
verification! Note also the heated pitot on the right wingtip; this eliminates
any doubt as to the originality of this fitting (as seen on many L-17, including
mine). Usually, this fitting indicates European service after the Korean
War, and is a good indication of Korean service. The fitting is in the Ryan
parts catalog; my fitting was further stamped with a Ryan inkstamp.
